1- Tipu Sultan Fort – A fine piece of architectural brilliance, the Tipu Sultan Fort represents a glorious age, though being present in one of the busiest markets in the country. The monolithic fort was originally built by King Kempe Gowda in the 16th century and was later modified by Emperor Haider Ali, who added granite blocks in several parts of the fort.  Finally, it was Haider’s son Tipu who completed the work in the 18th century and used it as his summer mansion. This two-storied monument consists of several pillars, carved walls and arched balconies. Designed in Islamic style of architecture, you can still find a Ganesha temple within the premises, which shows the religious tolerance of the kings of those times. If like digging deep into history, you can explore the art gallery located within the fort, which houses historical paintings, photos and carvings.

 

2- Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens – Counted as one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the country, this magnificent tourist spot was established by King Hyder Ali, and was later extended by Tipu Sultan. There’s a massive Glass House in the garden, which draws inspirations from the London Crystal Palace. Spread on a sprawling area of more than 200 acres, the garden boasts of more than 1800 species of flora varieties. The lawn clock located in the garden is also one its kind in the country.

 

3- Bangalore Palace – Built by Chamaraja Wodeyar from the Wodeyar dynasty in the 19th century, the Bangalore Palace looks quite similar to the Windsor Castle. Located right at the heart of the city, this monolithic structure showcases the brilliant Tudor style of architecture with Gothic windows, wood carved walls and leaves tourists in awe of the stunning craftsmanship during that era. Spread in more than 400 acres of land which also includes beautiful gardens of the palace, the venue often holds art exhibitions and concerts.

 

4- Nandi Hills – Taking you out from the chaos of the city, Nandi Hills is a perfect to come closer with nature. Situated about 60 kilometers away from the city centre, the hill station showcases historic ruins made from granite stones. With rivers Palar and Arkavathi originating here, it offers a great picnic spot for the people in the city. Nandi Hills was named after the famous Nandi temple, located at the top of the hill about 1500 meters above sea level.
