Tourism chiefs and business groups have welcomed the introduction of more frequent flights to Sydney and Melbourne from Sunshine Coast Airport.
They say the new ‘Sydney in a day’ flights will be a major boost, not only to business people heading to the capital, but for tourists visiting the Sunshine Coast for family holidays and weekends away.
Nearly 3 million local and interstate visitors choose a Sunshine Coast holiday every year, and it’s easy to see why.
It’s a fantastic destination for families, couples and groups, with so much to do and a great choice of holiday accommodation, from holiday house rentals to luxury apartments and penthouses.
More affordable
Luxury accommodation on the Sunshine Coast has become more affordable and visitors to the coast are reaping the benefits.
Some families and groups of friends are finding that it can be much better value to rent a luxury penthouse on the Sunshine Coast and share the cost. For example, the Catalina Resort in Maroochydore has a penthouse that spans three levels and accommodates six people.
Maroochydore makes a great central base from which to explore the sensational Sunshine Coast, as there are all sorts of attractions, cafes, restaurants and, of course, the patrolled surf beach all within walking distance of the resorts.
Then venture further afield to take in the delights of the hinterland, where you’ll discover picturesque villages, mountain top cafes, art galleries, craft and antique shops and gourmet dining.
Amazing views
And then there are the views! Be sure to choose an ocean view luxury penthouse on the Sunshine Coast, so that you can wake up to that amazing vista every morning, and then enjoy the twinkling lights on the water at night.
Drive out to the hinterland and you’ll find lookouts that deliver breathtaking views over the mountains and countryside, especially up behind Maroochydore, in the Blackall Ranges.
Foodies love the Sunshine Coast, as you could dine somewhere different every night and barely scratch the surface of what’s available! In fact, there are food and wine trails through the hinterland that make a wonderful day out.
Sensational seafood
Local seafood and produce can be found everywhere, from the freshest Mooloolaba prawns to Kenilworth cheese and Cooloola berries.
Perhaps you enjoy fine dining at a top waterside restaurant, or maybe a picnic in the hinterland is more your taste, having stocked up at the local farmers’ market.
That’s also part of the charm of renting self-contained luxury accommodation on the Sunshine Coast. Guests can come and go as they please, dine out or bring home a whole load of goodies and have meals in their apartment.
For families, this can be a great help, as the children can be fed early, and Mum and Dad can relax on their private balcony with a chilled glass of wine.
Patrolled surf beach
Children love visiting the Sunshine Coast because there is so much fun to be had. Firstly, make sure you choose a resort that has plenty for the kids to do, such as swimming pools and BBQs.
And it’s probably a good idea to find a resort within metres of the patrolled surf beach, too.
Resorts in Maroochydore are within easy reach of other great attractions, including Underwater World Sea Life Aquarium, Aussie World, Big Kart Track and Australia Zoo.
If natural attractions are more your taste, the choice is endless, from trips to World Heritage-listed Fraser Island to whale watching, kayaking through the Everglades and deep sea fishing.
The Sunshine Coast hosts many events throughout the year, which are a great excuse to come and visit.
Major sporting events
The Noosa and Mooloolaba Triathlons top the list of major sporting events on the Sunshine Coast, with thousands of participants and spectators attending each year.
The Noosa Festival of Surfing, which runs from March 5 to 12 in 2016, is the largest surfing event in the world by competition numbers, and a huge event on the annual surfing calendar. The week-long event includes amateur and Pro longboarding competitions, SUP, and even dog surfing!
It’s a great excuse to book into luxury accommodation of the Sunshine Coast and indulge all your senses!
For those who enjoy the arts more than the water, the Noosa Long Weekend Festival is a must in July. Over 10 days the festival presents a diverse range of music, art, theatre, dance and workshops, including such renowned performers like the Queensland Ballet.
Art lovers will also enjoy wandering around the galleries and antique shops of the hinterland, picking up something special to take home, and rounding the afternoon off with a Devonshire cream tea.
The Sunshine Coast is one of the most diverse holiday destinations in Australia, perfect for all ages and budgets, and promising beautiful weather all year round. Just perfect.
It’s also the perfect excuse to book a luxury penthouse on the Sunshine Coast and really spoil yourself – because you deserve it!
