If you’re visiting the UK’s sunniest spot this year, don’t miss out on these great things to do.
The largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey boasts beautiful scenery, Michelin starred restaurants, and plenty of beaches. It’s a great place to pick up a spot of summer sunshine without straying too far from the UK. There’s lots to see and do during a trip to Jersey, but don’t leave without trying out our top five tips.
Get Wet
Britain’s sunniest spot is home to more than fifty beaches, and is a great place to try your hand at some water ports. Don your wetsuit and head to St Ouens Bay, one of the UK’s top destinations for surfers and body boarders, or take a sea kayak tour around the island at sunset. Because Jersey is an island, kite surfing and wind surfing are also great sports to attempt: if the wind’s wrong on one side of the island, you can simply drive to the other.
If you’re travelling to Jersey with children, make sure to pay a visit to the amazing! Theme park. As well as an amazing maze (a maze in the maize), the family run park has plenty of activities to keep children of all ages entertained. The 45 foot high slide, water balloon fight, and gigantic ball pits should help your kids let off some steam while they’re staying in Jersey, while you can enjoy some family fun at the giant hoopla game and crazy golf course.
Take a Ramble…
The cliff paths are great for walkers, providing beautiful views out to the other channel islands and out to sea. There are a few coastal walks to try out, but St Aubin to L’Etacq is one of the easier walks. It’s fairly straight as it runs along an old disused railway track. It takes in the South West coast, and there are plenty of inns and pubs along the way where you can stop and pick up some refreshments.
…Or Spoil a Walk
Jersey is a great place for a spot of golf. Despite being only nine miles long and five miles wide, there are three 18 hole courses and three 9 hole courses to choose from. Jersey’s golf pedigree is clear, as the island has produced champion golfers Ted Ray and Harry Vardon among others. The La Moye Golf Club is particularly stunning, set 250 feet above sea level on a promontory.
Grab a Bargain
Luxury goods are cheaper in Jersey than on the mainland, due to the island’s status as a tax haven. St Helier is the best place to do a spot of shopping, whether you want to pick up a discount smartphone or just some tasty local produce. Jersey is renowned for its creamy fudge and chocolate, so it’s certainly worth sampling while you’re in St Helier.
